On December 23, 2024 the FDA announced a nationwide recall of a commonly used preservative free eye drop, Systane Ultra PF. The recall was initiated voluntarily by the makers of the drop, Alcon, due to a customer complaint about a foreign object in a vial that was reported to be fungal contamination. Here is what you need to know:

Affected Lots: The affected Systane Lubricant Eye Drops Ultra PF, Single Vials On-the-Go, 25 count is limited to lot number 10101, expiration date 2025/09. The product can be identified by the green and pink carton design, presence of “Systane” and “ULTRA PF” brand names on the front of the carton, and the “25 vials” package size. This does not affect all drops. Only this specific lot of Systane PF. If you do have these drops on hand stop use immediately and take them back to where they were purchased for a refund.
Health Risks: Using contaminated eye drops can lead to eye infections. Symptoms may include redness, swelling, discharge, or increased sensitivity to light.
