At Eyes on Albertville and Eyes on Guntersville, we are committed to investing in new technologies to better serve you. When needed, our special testing equipment helps us to better care for our patients' overall ocular health. These tests aid in the management of many ocular diseases and abnormalities.
First, our fundus camera allows us to photograph the main region of the retina, which includes the macula and the optic nerve. This allows us to attach an actual image to the patient's electronic health record and monitor for changes over time.
The fundus images aid in monitoring several ocular conditions like choroidal nevi (or freckles in the back of the eye), diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration, just to name a few.
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is another one of our non-invasive imaging tests. OCT uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina. With OCT, our doctors can see each of the retina’s distinctive layers. They can then map and measure the thickness of these layers and monitor for much smaller changes than they could see by just viewing the surface of the retina. This helps in the diagnosis and management of macular degeneration, glaucoma, and macular edema from diabetic retinopathy as well as many other conditions.
The The visual field test is a subjective measure of central and peripheral vision, or “side vision". The Visual field test uses a light spot that is repeatedly presented in different areas of your vision. This allows our doctors monitor vision loss or changes from glaucoma, certain medications, and some neurological diseases.
Our mission has and always will be to give patients access to the best quality eye care possible. This technology is only a small part of what we do daily to ensure every patient experience is top-notch.
